About the choir
CANTANDO is a mixed voiced chamber choir founded 30 years ago by their director Órla Barry.
A highly accomplished and versatile group, as well as being good friends, Cantando sing in a variety of styles and genres, always expertly guided by their enthusiastic and talented director.
They have performed in numerous concert locations around Ireland including The National Concert Hall, Dublin, Aula Maxima, Cork, St. Nicholas Collegiate Church, Galway, Trinity College, Dublin, Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin, St. Bartholomew’s, Clyde Road, Dublin, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin, The Carlingford Arts Centre, Co Louth , St. Patrick’s College Chapel, Maynooth, the 3 Arena Dublin and many more.
They have taken part in International and National competitions at home and abroad. They were the first Irish Choir to achieve a gold award at the Verona International Choral Festival, were finalists in the Moore Stephens International Festival in Jersey, National Choir of the Cork Choral Festival and winners in numerous categories at Cork, Sligo, Arklow, Navan, New Ross and Dundalk.
Cantando have made a number of recordings including several broadcasts for RTE and a double CD of Contemporary Church Music I sing for Joy. Their own Christmas CD The Time of Christemas was released in 2009.
Cantando have sung at corporate events and weddings and always include at least one charity fundraiser in their annual programme.
As well as challenging each other to reach the highest musical standards, a sense of fun and enjoyment has remained important to all the members old and new, since their inception 30 years ago.
They rehearse in central Dublin on a Monday night.
